By MICHAEL HINMANEmma Watson, who has appeared in five Harry Potter films as the very smart Hermione Granger, has decided to hang up her broom forcing Warner Bros. to recast the role for the final two films, Digital Spy and News of the World reports. This all comes after talks between the studio and the actress failed, even after Watson was reportedly offered £4 million, or $7.77 million for "Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince" and "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows."
Not all the news outlets in Britain agree, apparently. CBBC Newsround is reporting that the story is not true and maintains that Watson is quite sure she'll do the last two movies. At least Warner Bros. thinks so.
"We're extremely confident that Emma will be back for films six and seven," a spokesperson told Newsround.
Newshound did confirm, however, that Watson is the last of three main actors yet to sign on the dotted line for the final two films.
Rupert Grint, who plays Ron Weasley in the film series, apparently confirmed the problems that Watson had been having with her role.
"She's tired of being known as 'that girl from Harry Potter,'" Grint said. "Daniel [Radcliffe] and I are distant from her now. We don't text or talk to her when we are not filming."
Internet Movie Database lists the last two films on Watson's resume, but may just be considered automatic since no word otherwise had been released until this weekend. Watson has not acted in anything else besides Harry Potter since the original "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone" was released in 2001.
Co-stars like Grint and Radcliffe have had a different fate so far. Grint, who turned 18 last year, has appeared in several productions outside of Harry Potter including the film "Driving Lessons" last year as well as a voice in the television special "Happy Birthday, Peter Pan" in 2005.
Radcliffe has made tremendous waves in his work outside of Harry Potter as well, most recently shucking his clothes for a controversial role in the stage play "Equus." He's also set to appear in an upcoming film called "December Boys" and a television project "My Boy Jack."
