By ROBIN BROWNFIELD"It's just a different world," Silver told Classic-Horror.com. "There are no demons, there are no other entities. It's a world where there are vampires, and they're around, and they're living among us."
Mick St. John, played by Alex O'Loughlin, is a vampire detective on who unlike Joss Whedon's "Angel," gets his "food" from a guy who works at a blood bank. He doesn't burst into flames in the sun, and can't be killed with a stake through the heart. He likes golf, Steve McQueen movies, classic "Star Trek" and Miles Davis -- few things that David Boreanaz character on The WB series liked at all.
Another thing "Moonlight" has in common with "Angel" is that for a brief time, writer/producer David Greenwalt had served as "Moonlight's" showrunner until recently. Greenwalt is credited with creating the character of Angel with Whedon. He left the show for reported health reasons, but not before he helped get "Moonlight" in shape for new showrunner Chip Johannessen (Dark Angel, Millennium).
"[Greenwalt] worked really hard on the arc of the series," Silver said. "He really helped us focus and get started."
Actor Brian J. White confirmed as much as well.
"David Greenwalt is right on the pulse with what the next permutation or evolution of that kind of series is," he said.
"Moonlight" has undergone a number of changes since the series was picked up by CBS. All of the characters from the pilot, except for O'Loughlin's, has been recast. British actress Sophia Myles, best known by American viewers as the girl in the fireplace in "Doctor Who," has taken over the role of Beth Turner, a crime reporter for an Internet news site.
"She goes to the crime scenes, really hard-hitting kind of dangerous stuff -- and then she does live feeds to an Internet news site," Myles said. It's at one of these crime scenes where she encounters Mick. "She meets him in the first episode at the scene of a really horrific crime. She thinks she knows him, or isn't quite sure - there's some kind of connection."
