By STAFF WRITERBeginning April 2 at 11 p.m. ET, SyFy Portal will become SyFy Radio, hosted by site founder Michael Hinman. It's being broadcast through BlogTalkRadio, an online radio site that streams shows live and makes recorded versions available for playback. SyFy Radio has set up shop at www.blogtalkradio.com/syfyradio, and anyone who visits the profile page will get a chance to hear a trial run of the new show that was aired live Thursday night featuring Hinman as well as SyFy Portal lead programmer Nick Chase, SyFy Portal news editor Wayne Hall, and David Read from GateWorld joined the unscripted broadcast that allowed SyFy Radio to work out some of its kinks gearing up for the first show on April 2.
"The beauty of the Internet is that you don't have to be tied to just one medium," said Hinman, who will continue to host the hour-long program. "I have had some radio experience in the past, and I've long wanted to put it to good use by talking about science-fiction, and it's great to find a site like BlogTalkRadio that will allow us to do it with so little effort."
The show each week will feature some of the week's headlines found on SyFy Portal, include visits from some of SyFy Portal's most popular writers and columnists; occasional special guests like Webmasters, television writers, actors and the like; and phone calls from live listeners.
The first show, which will air at 11 p.m. ET, will feature a special guest appearance by Daniel Malen, better known as The TV Addict, who will talk about what's hot in television as well as chat a little bit about the upcoming Season 4 premiere of "Battlestar Galactica."
And speaking of "Battlestar Galactica," SyFy Radio will air a show at a special night and time -- Friday, April 4 at 11:30 p.m. ET -- to talk about the Season 4 premiere, and give you the fans a chance to call in and share your thoughts. There also is a chance that a special guest or two will stop by and chat a little bit about the episode as well.
