It may have started life as a Webisode series, but a television-based "Sanctuary" has now gone into production.

The series will be the first television show to use completely virtual sets thanks to green- screen technologies. The approach has been tried by several big screen movies including "Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow," "Sin City" and the recent "300."

"Sanctuary" features Dr. Helen Magnus (Amanda Tapping), a 157-year old woman who runs a sanctuary to protect, study and possibly even cure the world's strangest and bizarre creatures. Among her collection are furry manservants, double-sided people and her own daughter … who was fathered by the time jumping Jack the Ripper.

The original Web series cost $4.5 million to produce and was met with enough popularity that SciFi Channel gave the show a 13-episode commitment as a fall series. All of "Sanctury’s" original Web cast are expected to return for the series which shoots in Vancouver, British Columbia.

"Stargate SG-1" executive producer Damian Kindler and producer/director Martin Wood will be executive producing the series along with Tapping.
