Brandon Routh, who played the title character in "Superman Returns," said he believes director Bryan Singer will begin filming sequences for the sequel, "Superman: Man Of Steel," by spring 2009, according to SciFi Wire.

"Bryan keeps me up to date with what's going on, and I think he'll get a script together later in the year, and we'll begin filming early next year," Routh said.

The actor hopes he gets to punch more bad guys next time, and has stayed in shape for the role.

"I'm ready to get back into the swing of it, though," he said.

Until then, Routh has been keeping busy with other projects, including NBC's "Fear Itself," a horror anthology. The segment he'll appear in is called "Community," and focuses on a young couple who discover they have moved into a neighborhood that expects residents to follow strict rules. Mary Harron, who directed "American Psycho," will helm that portion of the series.

Routh has also appeared in "Lie To Me," an independent film that also stars Courtney Ford, his real-life wife. The movie follows a couple as they try to make an open relationship work for them.

"Superman: Man Of Steel" is currently expected to be released to theaters in June 2009.
