Allison Mack Following Michael Rosenbaum Out Of 'Smallville'?

The departures don't seem to be yet over for "Smallville" as it gets ready for its eighth season.

TV Guide's Michael Ausiello is reporting that Allison Mack is still trying to work out a deal with The CW show, but that it's not looking good.

"This marks quite a turnaround from a few months ago when I deemed Mack a lock to come back next season," Ausiello said. "And I wasn't the only one. Although a deal wasn't signed at the time, 'Smallville' insiders tell me that all indications were that the actress was on board for Season 8."

However, when Michael Rosenbaum, who plays Lex Luthor, made his non-return for the next season official, Mack apparently was able to come back and ask for a bit more since the show would be more dependent on her than ever. She got help from Kristin Kreuk's move to only be a part of Season 8 in a recurring capacity.

"They need Chloe now more than ever, and Allison's people know it," a source told Ausiello.

This goes back to the argument of some fans who feel that The CW should've simply pulled the plug on the show after seven seasons. "Smallville" has already lost not only Rosenbaum and for the most part Kreuk, but it also lost its creators and showrunners Al Gough and Miles Millar.

Keeping Chloe around is important because otherwise, the only major female lead left is Erica Durance as Lois Lane. And one insider noted to Ausiello that the whole Lois and Clark thing has already been done.

Either way, The CW seems determined to milk this series for every last drop of super-strength it has.

"Smallville" airs Thursdays at 8 p.m. ET on The CW.
