Christian Bale Escapes Charges In London

An incident two weeks ago in England will not result in charges against "The Dark Knight" star Christian Bale.

The actor was arrested July 20 while attending the European premiere of "Dark Knight" accused of assaulting his mother and sister at a hotel outside of London. The Crown Prosecution Service, however, said that there was not enough evidence to pursue the case against Bale, and that the matter is closed.

Bale, who also played Bruce Wayne in "Batman Begins" in 2005, denied the allegations levied against him.

Police had apparently waited a day before they questioned Bale, allowing him to attend the British premiere of the Batman film, before detaining him and later releasing him on bail.

Life outside "The Dark Knight" hasn't been too kind to those involved. Outside of Bale's arrest, co-star Morgan Freeman was involved in a car accident in Mississippi last week that required he be removed using the Jaws of Life and later having to have surgery on his arm to help him heal from injuries sustained in the accident.

Then, of course, there was the tragedy of Heath Ledger, who died of an accidental drug overdose in January.

"The Dark Knight" remains at the top of the American box office for the last four weeks, bringing in more than $450 million to date.
